Logistikas 25 years - Toni Brigatti: Growth deep in the company's DNA

I still remember very well the first time I met Ari Salmi. It was November 17th in 2003 and I came to sell season tickets for the ice hockey team Vermuntilan Tempo. I was a young engineer and I mentioned in passing that working in his company might would be interesting. Ari told me that the company needed a salesman, but first I should learn what logistics is.

This learning started with various warehouse jobs and assisting the foreman. After a couple of years, the industry started to become familiar, and with Ari's guidance, I was able to delve deeper into offers, contracts and customer relationships. At that time, the company had ten employees and the turnover was around 700,000 euros.

In 2005, a decision was made to implement the Logmaster information system, which quickly proved to be a significant strategic choice. We were still a relatively small operator, but Ari had a clear vision that in order to grow the company, a functional and integrated information system is needed, which can be used to produce cost-effective services in a multi-client environment.

As far as I'm concerned, the sales work got off to a great start. I had successes right away, which fueled self-confidence and genuine belief in the demand for our services. The company's turnover grew between 50% and 100% during the years 2003-2013. The plant operations were not completely painless, but I learned a lot of new things about, for example, business transfers and outsourcing.

"Logistikas has long-term customer relationships, where at best it is not the seller and the buyer sitting at the same table, but partners who respect each other, planning how to handle things in the best possible way."

When I started as CEO of Logistikas in August 2015, I had a vision for sales and customer relations, but I had to learn things related to personnel, equipment and premises, for example. There was plenty of new stuff in 2020 as well, when Sievi Capital became the main owner of Logistikas. All the changes and constant learning have kept my mind fresh for the past 19 years. Also, the diverse customer base with its various functions, as well as meeting new people are the absolute wealth of this job.

I have been able to work on a wide scale with many great people. Ari Salmi has given me a lot of tools for my own work. We have also worked closely with Administrative Director Olli-Pekka Reunanen. Logistikas has long-term customer relationships, where at best it is not the seller and the buyer sitting at the same table, but partners who respect each other, planning how to handle things in the best possible way.

The 25-year journey also includes challenging moments when we have had to take drastic adjustment measures. One of these dates back to 2015, when the price of oil dropped dramatically and this affected the operations of our two biggest customers. A year later, however, we received one significant outsourcing, which restored faith, and during the following year we reached positive numbers again. After this, in 2019 we made a record result in the current history of the company, which we doubled in 2020.

"In 25 years, not a single customer has left because of our service level."

When Sievi Capital became the main owner of Logistikas in 2020, we created a new growth strategy where our Vision is to be the leading service provider in the logistics service segment in 2025. We have also created organic growth, as we made the first acquisition in the company's history in the summer of 2021 when we acquired two of the three companies of Piccolo Group Ltd in Vaasa. These companies were Piccolo Packing Ltd and Piccolo Solutions Ltd. At the same time, Piccolo Group became a shareholder of Logistikas Group.

Growth has been deep in Logistikas' DNA from the beginning. Ari has known that the company must be of a certain size so that it can withstand potential bumps and can grow in a planned manner. We have always thought carefully about what kind of customers we approach and what we offer them. Multi-year partnership agreements have enabled long-term cooperation. In 25 years, not a single customer has left because of our service level.

In the future, Logistikas will continue to grow according to its plan and we are constantly thinking about new locations to expand our geographical presence. There are good plans and we work on them all the time.

The strong foundation of 25-year-old Logistikas has always been and will continue to be built on competent, motivated and well-being personnel. We want to nurture and maintain a cycle of positivity, where appreciation and care create high-quality service, which gives customers the opportunity to grow. It also creates new growth opportunities for Logistikas.
